Little backstory on to how I got into nail art/design…
It wasn't until the beginning of High School when I first started painting my nails every week. Then, in the summer of my Junior year I did a Girls Who Code Summer Immersion Program and one of the girls did nail art. I was super inspired and decided it looked super easy that I could do it. As soon as I got home, I went onto amazon and bought some dot tools and really cheap nail art brushes. I'll admit, the first few designs were just dots and my left hand always looked horrible!
Over time it improved a bit and I eventually created a new Instagram account for my nail art (I didn’t want anyone who currently followed me on my main Instagram to see so I hid this nail account). I posted my first picture October 10, 2015. It was pumpkins with a glitter topcoat ( the glitter was to disguise my terrible line work lol). I was hooked after this though. I would google inspiration (like "yellow nail art", "Halloween nail art") sometimes I would replicate other times I tried making my own designs.
Soon my mom found out I was doing this and decided to post one of them on her Facebook (moms share EVERYTHING on Facebook). It was super funny because on of her friends asked if I could work at a birthday party for her but neither my mom or I responded to that so it didn't end up happening but my confidence definitely grew.
College crept up and my first year I lived on campus. I brought ALL my nail art supplies. My roommates and I became the best of friends (that’s a whole other story though). One day they asked if I could do their nails (at this point I still haven't attempted painting anyone else's nails) and I said yes. I had completely shaky hands when trying to paint her nails and it turned out HORRIBLY so now I just stick to doing my own nails.
I truly love painting my nails, I find it super relaxing and it fulfills my need of being creative. From searching for inspirational designs to picking my next nail color to painting my nails and adding fun/cute designs - it takes time and patience and makes me calm down from the week (oh ya… I do this almost weekly).
Comparing my nail pins to my actual nail art
In the two pictures above you can see numbered nail art. The left picture grid is the most recent pinned nail art I have on Pinterest while the right grid picture is my most recent nail art posted on my Instagram. I decided to compare the designs and see what my ideal nail art is.
Alright... let's put this information into some graphs now.
Based off my most recent pins and my most recent nail designs I’ve done myself… my current “dream/favorite” nail design would be short, almond shape, with green and white curved stripes. I never thought to compare and put my most recent pins/nail art into a table and see what happens but this is very eye opening and makes complete sense because one of my most favorite colors is green and I really love fun, flowing shapes that look effortless.
